India is an underrated origin with a genuinely different flavour signature. Coffee grows in the shaded hills of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, often intercropped with pepper and cardamom. Two styles reach UK roasters: clean washed Arabicas, and the famous Monsooned Malabar — beans deliberately exposed to monsoon winds until they swell pale and mellow, producing a low-acid, heavy, earthy-spicy cup that is unmistakable in espresso. India also grows some of the world’s best speciality Robusta, increasingly used to add crema and body to blends. If you want something outside the usual Latin American / East African axis, or a bold, spicy espresso base, India delivers character for the money.
