Doke Estate First Flush Black Fusion Tea
About this Product
Doke Tea Estate located in Bihar, which is just south of Darjeeling and very close to the Nepalese border with India, is a lush and verdant tea garden through which the Doke river gently flows. This natural synergy adds character and sweetness to the hand-crafted and artisanal teas that are produced here.
The Bihar region is the fifth largest tea producing state in India and Doke itself is listed as being in the Pothia block with the nearest village being Jharkhuda. The management office of Lochan teas who own this estate is situated in nearby Siliguri. Doke Estate covers approximately 45 acres and is cultivated mainly with Camellia Sinensis Assamica.
Something else that attracted us to this wonderful tea is Doke’s commitment to the empowerment of women and which aims to become the first woman-run tea estate in the region. Their aim is to cultivate a legacy of excellence, sustainability, and inclusivity.
Doke is dedicated to fostering education amongst women in the vicinity of the tea garden plus empowering them with knowledge and skills to build a secure foundation for their future. There are even plans to develop a resort and sanctuary within the boundaries of the estate and which will teach the intricacies of tea processing, the health benefits of tea and the profound art and science that relates to tea.
We are delighted to share a video showing the tea we have in stock in production here. You’ll be pleased to know that previous batches of this excellent tea have won a Gold Star at The Leafies and at the Great Taste Awards in the UK, and won awards at both at both the AVPA Festival in Paris, and at the Gold Leaf Awards in Australia.
This fine quality black tea is a hand-made Doke Estate First Flush, made without the use of ANY tea machinery, it is hand-plucked, sun weathered, hand-rolled and sun dried.
When we brewed this tea to assess its flavour and quality, we found a complex fusion of multiple flavours and aromas. Made using the assamica strain of camellia sinensis this tea gives a robust and malty infusion complemented by a mildly spicey aroma of petrichor and molasses. The bright, golden brew produces a delightfully fruity cup with peach and apricot notes and a lingering honey sweet mouthfeel.
We have managed to secure only 2kg of this fine-quality, hand-made tea direct from Doke Estate but have asked that more availability be granted when this sells out.
